If only we saw Albinos for the Human beings they really are

Recent instances of albino stigmatization are a worrisome blemish in our society. That’s why we need as a nation to take a strong legal and social concern against our indecent treatment of our fellow citizens who are differently-blessed in skin color. As rightly observed by the Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Patricia Kaliati, our society’s culture of stigmatizing albinos calls for serious in-depth introspection, both as a people of God and as a human rights minded nation, to design and pass bills that specifically provides legal protective measures to albinos. We’re no stronger for victimizing and killing our fellows; we’re less so in our eyes, and least so, and most certainly worse, in the eyes of the Creator. Creation of a safe living environment is the goal here. And to achieve that, it is important to note that there has to be a great deal of meaningful sensitization to be made to our friends (or foes?) who believe in the efficacy of albino ritualism. T

First Lady Gertrude Mutharika Beautifies, Afforests Kasungu...Bemoans Deforestation

Malawi First Lady Gertrude Mutharika has appealed to people in the country to take tree planting exercises seriously, saying that is the only way the country can prevent natural disasters like floods. The First Lady made the remarks during a tree planting exercise at Kasungu Municipality catchment area. "We all have heard what has happened in some districts in the country where floods have caused havoc. This is because in some parts of the country, people have cut down trees carelessly," she said.    First Lady Gertrude Mutharika Beautifies, Afforests Kasungu...Bemoans Deforestation : First Lady Gertrude Mutharika Beautifies, Afforests Kasungu...Bemoans Deforestation

ICC the West's tool to Harass Africans, Mugabe demands cutting ties

The International Criminal Court should drop or suspend charges against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto until African concerns about the court and proposals to change its founding treaty are considered, African leaders say. The demand came in a report Saturday on previous decisions made by African Union leaders. Mugabe, 87, told the United Nations General Assembly in September of 2011 that the ICC has no credibility in Africa. The court “seems to exist only for alleged offenders of the developing world, the majority of them Africans”, he said. “The leaders of the powerful Western states guilty of international crime, like Bush and Blair, are routinely given the blind eye. Such selective justice has eroded the credibility of the ICC on the African continent.” The African Union has accused the ICC of disproportionately targeting Africans. The court has indicted only Africans so far, although half of the eight cases it is prosecuting we

Comrade Robert Mugabe assumes African Union leadership

Zimbabwe president calls on Africa to harness resources for its own ends as members urged to tackle infrastructure, climate change, conflict and Ebola Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s 90-year-old president, has assumed the chairmanship of the African Union (AU) with a call for members to improve infrastructure and tackle climate change, conflict and Ebola, and with a familiar rallying cry that Africa’s wealth belongs to Africa and not “imperialists and colonialists”. The veteran leader, who was elected head of the union on Friday, replaces President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, of Mauritania. “By electing me to preside over this august body, with full knowledge of the onerous responsibility that lies ahead, I humbly accept your collective decision,” Mugabe told the AU summit in Addis Ababa. “I do so, confident that I can always count on your full support and cooperation in the execution of the important mandate you have given me.” The president, who has led Zimbabwe since 1980, said the f

African Union: President Robert Mugabe should urgently address human rights concerns

President Mugabe should use his time as Chairperson to restore stability in parts of the region that have been ravaged by conflicts,” said Netsanet Belay, Amnesty International’s Africa Director for Research and Advocacy. The 24th Ordinary Session of the AU – that has taken the theme “2015: Year of Women’s Empowerment and Development Towards Africa’s Agenda 2063” is taking place at a time when the continent is facing protracted conflicts that have displaced millions of people. The shrinking of political space and denial of fundamental rights are also major problems in countries such as Angola, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia and Zimbabwe. 2015 will also see 19 African countries holding elections with nine taking place in the first quarter. This includes Nigeria which is currently facing constant attacks from the militant group Boko Haram.  African Union: President Robert Mugabe should urgently address human rights concerns

How To Talk To Rwandan Rulers: First Flatter Them, And Then Hit Hard With Truth

Lagarde was only warming up. Here she is with another flattery: "Since the early 2000s, Rwanda has grown at an average of about 8 percent—well above the regional average and on par with emerging Asia. Per capita income has more than trebled, and while poverty is still high—at about 45 percent of the population—the poorest have shared the benefits of growth. This is a remarkable feat." And then she hits them below the belt: "Mobilizing domestic revenues will be critical in creating fiscal space as reliance on aid gradually recedes. At 16 percent of GDP, the tax collection effort is still low compared to peers in Africa, and well below the 25 percent target set by the East African Community." In plain language: you guys get serious. You cannot claim success when your economy is driven by aid which remains as high as 15 percent of GDP and 40 percent of your government spending. This is no success story. Low tax collection makes you a lousy performer even by African sta
