Malawi, Tanzania Seek Mediation Over Border Dispute

Foreign ministers of the two countries are scheduled to meet former Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano, chairman of the forum, on Friday as part of a regional effort to resolve the border impasse.

“We have reached a point where we said that we cannot solve the problem of dispute between the two of us,” said Patrick Kabambe, permanent secretary at Malawi’s foreign affairs ministry. “So, we had agreed to involve a third party and the third party identified was the forum for former presidents of Southern Africa.”

“The two foreign ministers will put in a request today for the forum to mediate the dispute between the two countries,” he added.

Zambian Elections declared Peaceful, Transparent, Credible, Free and Fair by SADC

The SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to the Presidential By-Elections in the Republic of Zambia has declared the elections to have been peaceful, transparent, credible, free, and fair, thus reflecting the will of the people of Zambia in accordance with the National Laws and the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections. This is contained in the statement released today by Honourable Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Chairperson of the SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, and Head of the SADC Electoral Observer Mission to the Elections in the Republic of Zambia; accompanied by H.E.
